Lee Torres (They/Them/Theirs, Dine) is the Program Coordinator for the Community Opioid Intervention Pilot Project, for Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board under the Community Health & Resiliency Program. In this role, Lee serves tribal communities in New Mexico, Southern Colorado, and west Texas, by providing Opioid education, Substance use prevention, trauma informed substance education, substance break down and Naloxone training.

Lee’s interest in public health started with their move to New Mexico and an HIV prevention internship at First Nations Community Health Services, in 2017. In 2018 First Nations started a syringe service program that Lee developed and ran till 2021. In 2021 Lee joined the Community Health & Resiliency Program. With lived/living experience helping friends and loved ones navigating their substance usage, and losing friends to opioid overdoses has made Lee’s work in the public health field very personal. Lee believes in ending the war on drugs and supports safer consumption sites opening in the U.S. Lee’s passion also lives in the world of mutual aid for our communities and relatives being harmed by the lack of housing in the U.S.
